MOVING OR WORKING ABROAD? IMMIGRATION IS ONLY HALF THE BATTLE, DON'T FORGET ABOUT U.S. EXPAT LAWS.
Ever wondered how international finances and taxes work for U.S. citizens and Green Card holders living or working abroad? Expat law is all about that. While immigration law focuses on entering a new country, expat law, by contrast, addresses the legal obligations owed to the U.S. while residing overseas as a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder. At Expat Legal, we resolve legal problems arising from U.S. tax, bank secrecy, and sanction violations—helping you avoid hefty fines, penalties, and the risk of criminal prosecution or passport revocation. From state tax residency disputes to international taxes and foreign asset reporting, we keep you compliant with U.S. Treasury rules so your expat dream doesn’t turn into an expat nightmare. We also prepare your U.S. documents for foreign visa and residency applications, and if you’re ready to surrender your citizenship or Green Card, we ensure it’s done right—without surprises down the road. Ready to simplify your expat journey? Let’s get started.
Meet Parviz
Former Tax Prosecutor
My legal career began at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, where, as a federal law clerk, I prosecuted white-collar crimes like criminal tax evasion, money laundering, bank and wire fraud, and human trafficking. Later, I was selected by the State of California to prosecute civil tax cases. During my time there, I co-led California’s state tax residency program, targeting individuals who falsely claimed out-of-state or foreign residency while actually living in California. Notable cases included founders of prominent tech companies, celebrities, and high-net-worth individuals. I also served as a subject matter expert on tax issues involving interstate and international borders.
After several years with the state, I was recruited by a "Big 4" international accounting firm to develop tax-related legal defenses for global clients investing in U.S. real estate. At PwC, I worked extensively with international tax treaties, structuring investment vehicles for institutional investors and sovereign wealth funds.
On a personal note, I’ve lived in several countries and have always been an avid traveler, which first brought me into contact with expat tax laws. As a U.S. citizen, I understand firsthand how challenging it is to stay compliant with U.S. tax and foreign banking rules when living, working or digital nomading abroad—and how quickly a tax problem can escalate into a legal one once noncompliant. Opening my own practice wasn’t originally part of my plan, but my personal and professional experiences led me to focus on helping U.S. citizens and Green Card holders living and working overseas. Expat law isn't just an underserved niche I’ve identified academically; it’s a challenge I’ve lived.
I’m here to change that for others.
